General Mechanical Technician

Pay Scale: $35.00 to $44.00 - Based on experience

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on HVAC systems, heavy machinery,
  • and facility equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on 8' x 48' medical imaging trailers. Typical
  • mechanical systems include: chiller, HVAC, diesel generator, hydraulic patient lift, and
  • general trailer structural components.
  • Perform fabrication, and minor paint and bodywork as needed.
  • Operate tools, diagnostic equipment, and machinery safely and effectively.
  • Maintain accurate service and repair records in written reports suitable for customer
  • review.
  • Respond to service requests in a timely manner, both planned and emergency.
  • Ensure all work meets safety and quality standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Travel:

This position may require local travel to various work sites as well as about 4 nights per month
of overnight travel. Candidate must have a valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle, and an
adequate driving record.

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before
groups of employees or customers.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate measurements, proportions, and percentages, and apply concepts of basic
geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral,
or diagram form. Ability to address problems involving several variables in standardized
situations.

Computer Skills:

Basic proficiency with word processing, internet, and work order management software.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in HVAC, diesel
mechanics, or related fields preferred. Minimum 5 years of relevant maintenance or repair
experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid driver's license
  • HVAC or other trade certifications a plus

Equipment:

  • Hand and power tools
  • Diagnostic equipment (electrical testers, HVAC gauges, vacuum pumps, etc.)
  • Fabrication tools
  • Ability to operate a forklift a plus.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:

  • Hands-on mechanical, HVAC, and electrical competency.
  • Knowledge of diesel mechanics, heavy machinery, and general facility systems.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with paint and body work is a plus.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and
talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. The employee must be able
to climb and extension ladder to a 15' roof.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical
parts, outdoor weather conditions, electrical hazards, and heights. Noise levels are usually
moderate to loud depending on the work environment.
